About Michael Hool:
Michael Hool, President of Strategic Hospitality
Resources LLC (SHR) has been a member of the Hospitality Marketers
International, Inc. (HMI) Hotel Service Network since 2003.
Mr. Hool specializes in the fields of hotel
development, market feasibility research, due diligence, repositioning
of “tired” hotel properties, operations impact studies and financial
projections.
Since being a member of the HMI Hotel
Service Network, Mr. Hool has prepared feasibility studies and/or
operational proformas and investment analysis for hotels including
Hilton Garden Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Comfort Inn & Suites, Sleep
Inns, WIngate Inns, Microtel and several “independent” hotels such as
the Ambassador Hotel and Iron Horse hotels in Milwaukee and the Julian
Inn in Dubuque, Iowa.
He has also completed over thirty “Impact
Studies” for Choice Hotels International and Best Western throughout the
United States and across Canada.
Mr. Hool brings over thirty years of hospitality
experience to his consulting assignments.
Before joining the HMI Hotel Service
Network, he formed and operated SHR in 2002 working with owners
to determine the best use of their hotel properties by drawing on his
expertise in property operations, financial and investment analysis,
franchise review and management contract negotiations.
He also sought out redevelopment
opportunities which included initiating the redevelopment of the
Skirivin Hilton Hotel in Oklahoma City.
Prior to forming
SHR in 2002, Mr. Hool was Director of Development and
Controller/Director of Administration for Marcus Hotels and Resorts, a
subsidiary of Marcus Corporation in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for almost
thirteen years. He pursued opportunities across the US, Canada and
Mexico including the development of new properties, the
repositioning/redevelopment of “tired properties”, as well as management
opportunities.
Prior to joining Marcus Hotels & Resorts, Mr. Hool
was a member of the executive management team and controller at hotels
and resorts including the Dana Point Resort in Dana Point, California,
the Wyndham Southpark in Austin, Texas, the Provo Excelsior Hotel in
Provo, Utah and the Sheraton Park Place Hotel in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Previous to entering the hospitality field, Mr. Hool worked in public
accounting in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Mr. Hool’s experience includes the development of new and/or the
redevelopment of existing hotel properties with evaluation of
“tired”/historic properties by using historic tax credits and Tax
Incremental Financing (TIF) as well as negotiating public/private
partnerships in Madison, Wisconsin and Kansas City, Missouri. He
has expertise in facilitating strategic planning at the corporate and
property levels, franchise selection and negotiation of franchise
agreements, and third party management agreements.
Property types which Mr. Hool specializes in include economy, midscale,
upper midscale and upscale, limited and full-service hotels/resorts,
which are chain affiliated as well as independently branded.
Mr. Hool is a member of
The International Society of Hospitality Consultants (ISHC),
based on his industry reputation and superior knowledge in his area of
marketing expertise. In addition to being a member of the ISHC, he is
also a member of the Minnesota Society of CPA’s and is a Past National
Membership Chairman of the Hospitality Financial and Technical
Professional Association. Mr. Hool is also a member of The
Professional Ski Instructor’s Association.
He earned a Master of Arts in Secondary
Education from National Louis University as well as a Bachelor of
Science in Math and Physics from the College of Emporia Kansas.
